Our Division is preparing to welcome students and staff back into classrooms this September, after the Government of Alberta announced that in-school classes will resume. We will continue to take direction from Alberta’s chief medical officer of health and the Government of Alberta. We will be following the guidance outlined in the government’s 2020-2021 School Re-Entry Plan for our return to classes.

The safety and well-being of students, families and staff is our greatest priority. We’re taking new precautions to protect everyone’s health. Staff in our schools will be ready to support students and families through the transition.

Please view our MCKEE SCHOOL RE-ENTRY STRATEGY 2020-21 for a clearer picture of what things will look like at our school this year.

As we prepare for the 2020-21 school year, we recognize that in-person classes might not be the right choice for all families and staff, depending on their personal circumstances and well-being. That is why we are offering choice. Our goal is to ensure all students receive a high-quality education, which is why we will offer Distance and Online learning throughout the 2020-21 school year.

Families will be able to decide, at four key times throughout the school year, whether their child will attend school in person or learn at home through online instruction. To offer this choice, we are organizing the school year into four instructional quarters (two-month periods of learning).

  • Quarter 1: September 3November 10
  • Quarter 2: November 16January 29
  • Quarter 3: February 1April 20
  • Quarter 4: April 21June 29

Once families have reviewed their school re-entry strategy, they should sign in to their parent account on SchoolZone to confirm whether their child(ren) will return to in-person instruction at school or if they will choose online learning at home. For the first quarter of the school year, we ask that families back their choice by Friday, August 21, 2020.

Families should follow these step-by-step instructions once they are signed into their parent account on SchoolZone:

  • Click the Forms menu option at the top of your screen
  • Choose Additional Forms
  • Select Family Choice - Quarter 1 (click anywhere on the row)
  • Review the information sheet then click Respond at the bottom of the page. (Depending on the type of device you're using, you may need to download the information sheet.)
  • Check the boxes on the right side of the screen to complete your choice
  • Click Submit
  • Complete the form for each child enrolled at Edmonton Public Schools

Families who do not have access to SchoolZone should reach out to their school through email with their selection by Friday, August 21, 2020. Please provide your child’s name and grade, what option they will be selecting, in-person or online, and include family choice in your email subject line.  The Division will organize resources and staff to support the choices that families make.

Three weeks before the start of each quarter, families will be asked to indicate their choice for the following quarter. No matter what choice they make, the student will remain enrolled and connected to the school where they registered or pre-enrolled for the 2020-21 school year.

Families who need to register their child(ren) for school are welcome to do so over summer break. If you register over the summer, you will be contacted after staff return to school on Monday August 24. See more information on this page about registering new students using our online form.

Please note that McKee School is full in planned classes in Grades 1 to 6 for families outside of the school's attendance area. We are accepting registrations in all grade levels only if you are a resident of Edmonton Public Schools and have newly moved into our attendance area after April 15, 2020.

A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian that is non-Roman Catholic and who resides within the City of Edmonton. Non-resident students may only enrol in another Division school with space remaining in planned classes

Because schools remain closed to students and visitors due to COVID-19, new student registrations will now be submitted online. If your child is new to the Division, you must complete our school’s online registration form, fill out and upload the Student Registration form and submit supporting documents before your child(ren) can be registered for the upcoming school year.

Our school will no longer accept printed registrations. Do not drop off student registration forms at the school.

You will need to use an existing Gmail account or set up a free Gmail account to fill out the online form. This helps us protect the privacy of your personal information.

Upload copies of the following documents:

  • a completed, signed Student Registration form (fill out the form electronically, print a copy and scan the completed copy, or print and take clear photos of each completed page.)
  • confirmation of address for the student's parent/guardian (see below)
  • legal proof of the student’s name, citizenship and birthdate (see below)

All documents must be uploaded in order to submit the form. Please ensure that you are providing clear photos and the entire page is visible for each document submitted.
